Routt County Humane Society (“RCHS”) is collecting items to be transported on behalf of “two generous and devoted RCHS volunteers from Craig, Colorado who have volunteered to take much-needed supplies to Texas shelters,” according to Jessica Scrobble, Animal Care & Adoption Technician with RCHS. Scrobble said the 22-foot trailer leaves Monday Sept. 4. RCHS will accept donations anytime between until 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3.
“The goal is to help both dogs and other animals in Houston and its surrounding cities. Because of the transport laws, we are unsure if we can bring dogs back but would be willing to do so if we had the opportunity,” said Scrobble.
According to Scrobble, supplies needed include “food, crates, kennels, treats, toys, collars, litter boxes, gas gift cards, pet beds or any other donations you think would help.”

If you want to donate but are unable to drop off items at RCHS for transport, Scrobble said there are many links and websites online accepting donations. Examples include Austin Pets Alive, Tall Tails Animal Rescue, The Humane Society of the United States, and Best Friends Animal Society and its Texas Network Partners.
According to the Best Friends Network, donations and assistance can be made directly to specific Texas shelters listed on their website
This Huffington Post article lists additional animal welfare nonprofit organizations in need of donations. These organizations are assisting with animal relief efforts both on the ground in Texas and in remote support roles.
